The call for papers to present at the 2027 annual meeting of Canadian Historical Association is open until October 16!
If you are an environmental historian, please consider submitting a proposal for a paper or a panel. NiCHE would like to organize a series of linked panels on environmental history at CHA 2027.
Taking place from June 14-16 at St. John’s College, University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, the theme for the meeting is “Confluences and Crossroads.” Inspired by the long history of the Forks where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet, this theme evokes the many ways that society and environment have shaped one another in this place.
The annual meeting of the CHA is not restricted to scholars studying the history of Canada. Nor is participation at the meeting restricted to Canadian scholars! So, if you’re an environmental historian living outside Canada or study a place outside Canada, and you’re keen on visiting Winnipeg in June, please consider submitting a paper or panel proposal.
Individual paper proposals should be 250 words. Panels (sessions) do not require a panel abstract, but must include an abstract for each paper. The Program Committee is also open to proposals for workshops, poster sessions, or other formats that encourage historical inquiry and community participation.
Regardless of whether you are submitting a paper or panel proposal, or another type of proposal, make sure to include the word “environment” or something similar as one of the three keywords required on the submission form.
If you intend on submitting a panel of environmental history (or you have already done so), please let us know (nichecanadawebsite [@] gmail.com). NiCHE will sponsor one panel (or some other interesting proposal) at the CHA, and we don’t know what that will be yet! So we’d like to know what you have proposed. Maybe we’ll choose yours and fast track your acceptance to the CHA in Winnipeg!
