IHOPE’s Art and Environment Seminar Series

Beginning in November, the Integrated History and Future of People on Earth (IHOPE) international research network will be hosting their new Art and Environment online seminar series. 

The Art and Environment seminars are free and open to the public. Environmental researchers, students, historians, artists, cultural workers, and anyone interested in the topics are warmly invited to attend. The seminars will be held online, via Zoom.

The Art and Environment seminar series explores the intersection between art and environmental research. Each seminar features two practitioners from different disciplines who come together to discuss their work and methods in relation to specific environmental actors. In the first seminars of the series the space where disciplines coalesce will be around the topics of trees, ice, and seaweed. Multiple perspectives on the same subject provide both the audience and researchers the opportunity to explore new possibilities for working and communicating with a broader public where art and the environment meet. The seminars work to show the entanglements of the cultural, biological, temporal, and social, as evident in the material natural world.

Nicole Miller

Nicole Miller is an artist and visual anthropologist based in Sweden working at the intersection of art, philosophy, and environmental history. Her research interests include: the interplay of photography and archives with environmental engagement, collecting as a process that encourages new perceptions of one’s environment, and new possibilities for multi-sensory historical, environmental research. She is Project Assistant for the ESEH 2025 Conference.
