IHC Consulting Services Inc. is a Canadian consulting firm that connects organizations with highly qualified historians and other experts for applied research projects. Our clients include law firms, Indigenous Nations, municipalities, engineering and environmental consulting firms, and cultural heritage organizations.

Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for highly qualified scholars to apply their research expertise beyond academia while helping clients access specialized historical knowledge for complex projects.

As we continue to expand our network of independent consultants, we are seeking PhD and ABD scholars with expertise in one or more of the following areas, particularly as they relate to the Great Lakes region, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and the broader northern Great Plains:

• Environmental history
• Historical ecology
• Historical fisheries and aquatic ecosystems
• Historical wildlife populations and habitat change
• Forest, parkland, grassland, and land-cover history
• Wetlands, watersheds, and river systems
• Historical land use and landscape change
• Environmental change and natural resource use
• Historical environmental baseline reconstruction
• Historical geography and landscape reconstruction
• Archival research relating to environmental change
• Environmental history supporting Indigenous rights, title, and treaty-related research

Our consultants contribute to projects involving historical environmental baseline reconstruction, litigation support, Indigenous rights and treaty-related research, environmental assessments, archival research, and cultural heritage initiatives. Many projects involve collaborating with scientists, engineers, and environmental consultants to reconstruct historical landscapes and ecosystems. Current projects are focused primarily on the Great Lakes region and the Canadian Prairies. As our network continues to grow, we also anticipate future opportunities involving environmental history projects in northern British Columbia.
