The Network in Canadian History and Environment has four New Scholars Committee positions to fill for 2027.

The New Scholars Committee is a group of up to ten graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and recent graduates in environmental history or environmental humanities. The committee supports the New Scholars Representative, has the opportunity to work on NiCHE editorial initiatives, and works to provide virtual events, resources, and other opportunities for the early career scholars in the field. New Scholars Committee members are part of the NiCHE editorial basecamp and invited to NiCHE editorial meetings.

The New Scholars Committee positions are one-year terms (January 1 – December 31st), with an annual option for renewal. For 2027, NiCHE is looking to fill four New Scholars Committee positions to join the existing Committee and the Incoming Chair of the New Scholars Committee (Mary Baxter).

Open New Scholars Committee positions are advertised in October of each year, and applications are reviewed by the Executive Nominations Committee and the current New Scholars Representative. New Scholars Committee members can be based in any geographic location (although preference will be given to applications from Canadians and people living in Canada). The New Scholars Committee is a volunteer position.

New Scholars Committee members are expected to meet the following expectations:

  • Attend New Scholars Meetings
  • Assist the New Scholars Representative in leading initiatives for new scholars
  • Take the lead on at least one New Scholars initiative per calendar year

Please fill out this form to indicate your interest in volunteering to serve as a member of the NiCHE New Scholars Committee.
