2025 ASEH Early Career Caucus Call for Nominations

The ASEH Early Career Caucus (ECC) is now accepting nominations for all of the following positions. All positions except chair-elect are one-year terms. Currently, those who serve in the chair and chair-elect positions receive $500 travel grants to the annual conference. Otherwise, no compensation exists for ECC leadership work. The Early Career Caucus will need the following positions filled:

Chair-Elect*

  1. Attend ASEH Council gatherings, including at annual conference
  2. Consult with ASEH’s graduate students throughout the year
  3. Facilitate communication among the other elected officials and, as applicable, the engaged volunteers who are running ASEH activities

*This is a two-year position. Following a year as chair-elect, this caucus member will transition into caucus chair during their second year.

Communications Outreach Coordinator

  1. Maintain contact list for Caucus members
  2. Post to social media in coordination with others
  3. Perform basic maintenance of a Caucus Discord or similar chat space
  4. Coordinate a regular Caucus newsletter

Conference Coordinator

  1. Coordinate the submission of two panels that are endorsed by the Caucus
  2. Communicate with accepted graduate student presenters
  3. Plan elements of the conference experience intended for graduate students

Events Coordinator

  1. Develop a few activities for graduate students that occur outside of the annual conference
  2. Coordinate efforts by individuals to propose interest-based meetups or working groups throughout the year

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator

  1. Facilitate conversations & efforts that identify and reduce barriers to inclusivity in the Caucus and within ASEH more broadly
  2. Be a liaison between the Caucus and ASEH’s Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CODIE) Leadership

Mentorship Coordinator

  1. Gather and communicate information about career opportunities & related training, both inside and outside the academy
  2. Facilitate events & connections that increase professional development opportunities for Caucus membership

Fundraising Coordinator

  1. To advance fundraising initiatives for the Early Career Caucus.

Each caucus member should expect to commit approximately 10 hours per month to their position. Qualities that make a good candidate include:

  • Effective communicator
  • Responsive to emails and meeting requests
  • Possess vision for advancing the aims and interests of the ASEH’s early career membership

Those applying should currently be a student, a postdoc, or someone in a similarly temporary and early-career position who can commit to serving through the 2026 Annual Conference. All terms of office will start immediately after the voting period concludes and continue to May 2026, at which point new elections will be held.

To apply for an ASEH Early Career Caucus leadership position, please submit a short (one-page or less) statement to be shared with voters. The statement should describe your interest in the position, including some combination of information about previous participation in ASEH activities, your leadership and service experience (not limited to ASEH), and your vision for serving the early career subgroup of ASEH (primarily but not exclusively graduate students).
