Restoring Dangerous Memories to our Shared Histories
Reschedule for Thursday – 3 April 2025 – 7-830pm EST – Thursday – 6 March 2025 – 7-8:30 pm EST
Weaver Auditorium (B200) Nipissing University or online via Zoom
Presented by the Department of History, Anthropology, and Ancient Studies, Nipissing University

MP Charlie Angus, all over the news for his campaign to unite Canadians against the threat of Donald Trump, will give the 11th Annual Anne Clendinning Memorial Lecture at Nipissing University.
Charlie’s talk, “Restoring Dangerous Memories to our Shared Histories” will draw on his two recent books. Cobalt tells the story of both the mineral, the “demon metal” critical to our high tech economy, and the town of Cobalt, where a blueprint for resource extraction — theft of Indigenous lands, rape of the earth, exploitation of workers, enormous wealth generation – was established 100 years ago. Dangerous Memory: Coming of Age in the Decade of Greed is a memoir, a history of the 1980s, and a call to action. Charlie will speak on how these histories challenge us to confront the injustices of today.
Charlie will be the 11th annual Anne Clendinning Memorial Lecturer. The event was established in 2015 by the history faculty to celebrate and honour the memory of their outstanding colleague, teacher and scholar, Anne Clendinning.
