The call for applications for the 2025/26 Lillian Agnes Jones Scholarship is now open. The Lillian Agnes Jones Scholarship supports research and studies related to the history and culture of Western Canada.
As an arts institution and archives in Banff National Park, The Whyte is uniquely positioned to explore the overlapping histories of nationalism, nature preservation, art, colonialism, tourism, resource extraction, and leisure in the region. This research program is dedicated to supporting artists, scholars, writers, and curators in exploring the complex intersections present in places like Banff. We aim to foster creative and scholarly work that nurtures shared meaning and encourages a collective commitment to preserving the region’s natural and cultural heritage. The Whyte is dedicated to amplifying diverse perspectives and welcomes applications from all Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
Applicants are invited to submit proposals for funding up to $25,000 in one of two streams: Academic or Creative Production. Applicants are encouraged to describe how their research proposal will utilize the Art and Heritage collections, Archives and Special Collections Library, and other resources of The Whyte. Please see the website link below for more details about the application and research requirements.
Applications must include a submission checklist, project proposal, resume, writing or work sample, proposed timeline, and budget. All transportation and accommodation costs should be reflected in the budget. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide two references before the final selection of projects is confirmed. The deadline to apply is March 31st, 2025.
