Toronto Environmental History Network

historical map of Toronto

The Toronto Environmental History Network meets one evening a month to discuss pre-circulated papers. For 2012-13, we have an impressive slate of nine presenters from universities in all three North American countries. We strive to include papers about diverse regions, various centuries and the multiple facets of environmental history. This year’s topics vary from the impacts of landscape changes on 16th century Mexican agriculture to the environmental impacts of 19th century global trade and the development of golf courses in 20th century Ontario. All are welcome to attend. Regular attendees include scholars at various stages of professional development, from early-stage graduate students to Canada Research Chairs, from universities throughout the Golden Horseshoe. For more information, email David Zylberberg or Julie Bowring.

About

The Toronto Environmental History network hosts a monthly potluck reading group and it is open to all environmental historians and historical geographers in the GTA. This is a great opportunity to meet other environmental historians studying a range of Canadian and global topics from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries. It is also a friendly place to present work in progress to both graduate students and professors for helpful feedback.
