The Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague, the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic v. v. i., the Section for Historical Geography and Environmental History of the Czech Geographical Society and the Local Organizing Committee have the honor of inviting you to join the XV. International Conference of Historical Geographers, which will be held in Prague from August 6–10, 2012.

The Prague conference is historically the first to be held in a post-communist country. It is open to all historical geographers and scholars from related disciplines, such as history, environmental history, landscape ecology, environmental studies, etc.

The participation of young scholars and PhD candidates, independent scholars, as well as researchers using multidisciplinary approaches is encouraged.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Prague. On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, Pavel Chromý, Chairman

Submission Guidelines

Panel proposals are especially encouraged, although roundtable discussion proposals, individual papers, and posters are also welcome. Submission of complete session proposals is preferred; nevertheless the LOC will try to arrange sessions from proposals submitted as individual presentations. Although it is not required, it is possible to nominate session commentators.

In order to enable greater participation in the conference, the submission of session proposals with a greater number of participants is encouraged (e.g., 4 presenters of 10 minutes each).

All sessions (including roundtables) will be scheduled for 1.5 hours. No single presentation should exceed 15 minutes in order to enable at least 30 minutes for the discussion of presented papers.

Since roundtables are intended primarily for discussions among the speakers and with the audience, each roundtable presentation should not exceed 10 minutes.
Each individual participant may present only one paper during the conference (in a panel session, roundtable, or any other session). However, they can also serve as chairs or commentators in other sessions.

Abstract submission will be opened on September 1, 2011.

All abstracts must be submitted online via the main conference website.

The conference language is English. The authors are responsible for the content and language of the submitted abstract.

The abstract size limit is:
Panel abstract = 400 words
Presentation in panel abstract = 250 words Individual paper or poster abstract = 300 words Roundtable abstract = 200 words
