Environmental Governance by Economics Podcast
Hosted by Christina Frendo
Proposal Deadline: 31 August 2026
The Network in Canadian History & Environment (NiCHE) and the New Scholars Committee is seeking participants for a new podcast series exploring how environmental governance is shaped by economic and financial logics.
This series will examine the growing role of markets, finance, and economic reasoning in climate and environmental governance. While these dynamics are widely discussed in academic literature, the podcast aims to make these issues accessible through concrete case studies, historical context, and interdisciplinary conversation.
Topics may include:
- Climate finance and COP negotiations
- Carbon markets and offsetting
- Investor-state dispute settlements and environmental regulation
- Green growth and market-based environmental policy
- Financialization of nature
- Historical and political perspectives on environmental economics
- Critiques of market-led climate governance
- Alternative approaches to environmental governance
We are interested in hearing from:
- Scholars and researchers, including graduate students
- Policy practitioners
- Organizers and community-based practitioners
- Others working on related topics
If you are interested, please submit a proposed topic (100 words) and a bio (100 words) here by 31 August 2026. Accepted proposals will be notified on a rolling basis. The series will be recorded as a 45-minute conversation on Zoom from July to November 2026. Edited versions of the conversations will appear on the NiCHE website, YouTube Channel, and soon-to-be-launched Spotify Channel.
