This book provides a chronology of the commercial activities of the main forest industries and relates the changes in the forest labour force since the beginnings of the colony. It provides a good understanding of the paramount role of wood and forests in the economic development of the country.

GILBERT PAILLÉ is a forest engineer, former associate deputy minister, former CEO of the Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada, and author.

Le livre fournit une chronologie des activités commerciales des principales industries forestières et fait état de l’évolution de la main-d’œuvre depuis les débuts de la colonie. Il permet de bien saisir le rôle primordial du bois et des forêts dans le développement économique du pays.
GILBERT PAILLÉ est ingénieur forestier, ancien sous-ministre délégué, ancien président et chef de la direction de l’Institut canadien de recherches en génie forestier et auteur.
