NiCHE is one of over two dozen groups who partner with ICEHO and meet at the World Congress of Environmental History to discuss new research in environmental history and historical geography. Among more than 500 attendees at the 2009 World Congress in Copenhagen, Canada was the 2nd-most represented nation — there were more Canucks than Danes registered. To encourage and support Canadian participation at the 2nd WCEH, to be held 7-14 July 2014 in Guimarães, Portugal, NiCHE is sponsoring travel grants of up to $1500 for up to 10 participating Canadian or Canadianist new scholars (graduate students, recent PhDs, or postdoctoral fellows).
Grants will be tied to the conference submission process. After submitting a proposal through the conference submission system (deadline 31 August 2013), email niche@uwo.caseparately with your proposal abstract, a 1-page cv, and a paragraph explaining what scholarly benefit you see in attending the conference, all as a single PDF attachment. Shortly after the WCEH’s preliminary program has appeared, NiCHE will announce travel grants. Preference will be given to proposals that are accepted, but those whose proposal is rejected may still be given the opportunity to attend.
Only applicants registered in the NiCHE Member Directory will be considered. Recipients will be expected to write a blogpost about their experience at the conference, to be posted on the NiCHE website.
