The Society for the Study of Architecture in Canada is now accepting paper proposals for its 49th annual conference on the theme: Forms of Repair: Care, Restoration, and Redress in the Built Environment. The conference will open with a Wednesday evening reception, paper sessions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and a series of tours, and evening events.

We invite researchers, professionals, and students from any discipline whose work relates to the built environment in Canada to submit an abstract relating to one of the following sessions. For session descriptions, please refer to the full Call for Papers.

5. Re-Inhabiting the Public Office: Singularity vs. Community

7. Redefining Limits and Limitations: Exploring Accessibility in Canadian Architecture
8. Redress. Memorials. Spatial Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA People
9. Rethinking our places of worship and their future
10. The Architecture Work of Sustenance: Recognizing Cleaning, Maintenance, and Upkeep
11. Cultural Planning and Placemaking in Cultural Districts in Canada
12. Theory in Practice: Building Deconstruction and Reuse in Canada
13. Time for Interiors: Current Work on the Most Mutable of Spaces
14. Undergraduate Research Session – Lightning Talks
15. Current Research

Please email your submission to ssac.2024.seac@gmail.com no later than Friday, March 8, 2024, and include: an abstract of no more that 300 words, a CV or biography, and note which session your proposal addresses.

Paper proposals will be assessed by a scientific committee including session chairs and members of the Society. Depending on available funds, financial support for the travel expenses of students may be provided following the conference. The SSAC supports inclusive dialogue and encourages perspectives illuminating the influence and experience of gendered and sexually diverse, BIPOC, and disabled communities.

The 2024 Conference will take place on Treaty One Territory, on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Ininew, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. Winnipeg’s water is sourced from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation.

La Société pour l’étude de l’architecture au Canada accepte maintenant les propositions de communications pour son 49e congrès annuel sur le thème : Formes de réparation : soins, restauration et réparation dans l’environnement bâti. Le congrès s’ouvrira sur une réception le mercredi soir, des séances les jeudi, vendredi et samedi, ainsi qu’une série de visites et d’événements en soirée.

Nous invitons les chercheurs, les professionnels et les étudiant.e.s de toutes disciplines dont les travaux sont liés à l’environnement bâti au Canada à soumettre un résumé relatif à l’une des sessions suivantes. Pour les descriptions des sessions, veuillez vous référer à l’Appel à communications.

Veuillez envoyer votre proposition de communication par courriel à ssac.2024.seac@gmail.com au plus tard le vendredi 8 mars 2024 et inclure : un résumé de 300 mots maximum, un CV ou biographie et notez à quelle session votre proposition s’adresse.

Les propositions de communications seront évaluées par un comité scientifique comprenant des présidents de séance et des membres de la Société. En fonction des fonds disponibles, une aide financière pour les frais de déplacement des étudiants pourra être accordée après la conférence. La SÉAC soutient un dialogue inclusif et encourage les perspectives mettant en lumière l’influence et l’expérience des communautés de genre et de sexualité diverses, du PANDC et des communautés handicapées.

Le congrès de la SÉAC 2024 aura lieu sur le territoire du Traité n°1, sur les terres originelles des peuples Anishinaabeg, Ininew, Oji-Cree, Dakota et Dene, ainsi que sur la terre natale de la nation métisse. L’eau de Winnipeg provient de la Première Nation Shoal Lake 40.
