I am an Associate Professor and the Beekman Chair of Northwest and Pacific History at the University of Oregon. My first book, The Nature of Borders: Salmon, Boundaries, and Bandits on the Salish Sea (2012) investigated the shared salmon fishery between Washington State and British Columbia. I am currently working on a book about race, sexuality, and labor in the 19th century American whaling fleet.
