Looking Back, Looking Forward: The Ongoing History of Canada’s Forests.
May 16 – July 4 2012

Through the late spring and early summer, The Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF/IFC) will be offering an interactive electronic lecture series on Canada’s Forest History. Lectures will run for approximately one hour on Wednesdays at 1:30pm EST and will feature experts and practitioners from across Canada.

How do I participate?
The lectures are easy to access and efforts have been made to keep them user-friendly. Once registered, an email will be sent out to you providing the speakers’ presentation slides and the step by step instructions for participation. At the time of the lecture, you simply call into the teleconference and follow along with the presenter on your computer. All that is required is a computer and a phone (preferably with a speaker).

May 23. Stan Chester & Mike Apsey – Topic: 1 – BC Forest History – Past, Present and Future & 2 – BC Forest Service Centenary.

May 30. Bruce Mayer & Peter Murphy – Topic: 1 – Alberta’s forest history and the Forest History Association of Alberta & 2 – Tie logging in Jasper Park in the 1920s.

June 6. Ken Armson & Rob Galloway – Topic: 1 – The Ontario Forest History Society – Background & Activities & 2 – Englehart Management Unit Area Forest History 1912-2000.

June 13. Martin Hébert – Topic: Multiple histories, multiple perspectives: the challenges and opportunities of Forest History in Québec.

June 20. Mark McLaughlin & William Parenteau – Topic: 1 – The New Brunswick Forest Authority, 1973-1980: An Experiment in Government-Managed Forests & 2 – Gilbert Prince and the Emergence of Progressive Forest Legislation in New Brunswick, 1906-1918.

June 27. David Brownstein – Topic: Canadian Forest History: A Path Forward?

July 4. David Brownstein – Topic: An Introductory Workshop on Forest History Research and Writing, for those who have never been into the archives.
