SESYNC Postdoctoral Fellowships and Collaborating Mentors: Call for Applications

Scroll this
The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC), located in Annapolis, Maryland, invites applications from early career scholars (≤ 4 years post PhD) for 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowships that begin August 2017. Fellows will co-develop research projects with Collaborating Mentors using synthesis methods to address a problem arising from, or associated with, the relationship between humans and the environment. Priority will be given to projects that have the potential to advance understanding of socio-environmental systems, but the synthesis may be primarily social or environmental in nature, or some mix. We will also consider proposals with a humanities focus. Prospective fellows who propose the use of advanced theoretical, computational, and/or mathematical approaches to explore, characterize, and understand the structure and dynamics of socio-environmental systems are particularly encouraged to apply. All SESYNC Postdoctoral Fellows participate in the Socio-Environmental Immersion Program. While there is one Fellowship Program, there are three application tracks: Immersion, LTER, and Economics. For more information about the Immersion Postdoctoral Fellowship application process (the most broadly relevant track), please visit: http://sesync.us/postdocim.

In collaboration with the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) network, SESYNC also invites applications that propose to use long term data sets, ongoing experiments, or modeling results from LTER sites. For more information about the SESYNC-LTER Postdoctoral Fellowship, please visit: http://sesync.us/postdoclter.
Pre-screening applications are due October 24, 2016, but are accepted on a rolling basis and should be submitted as soon as possible. Full applications are due December 5, 2016 at 5pm EST.

SESYNC also invites applications from early career economists for the Natural Resource, Environmental, and Ecological Economics Postdoctoral Fellowships. The requirements for this fellowship are slightly different than the LTER an Immersion Fellowships, so please review the RFP for details: http://sesync.us/postdocecon. Pre-screening applications are not required for this Fellowship, and Collaborating Mentors do not need to be secured in advance of submitting the application. Full applications are due December 5, 2016 at 5pm EST.

SESYNC also seeks Collaborating Mentors interested in mentoring incoming SESYNC Postdoctoral Fellows and co-developing socio-environmental synthesis research projects with them. The mentor may be affiliated with any organization or institution, and we welcome mentors from universities, NGOs, government agencies, and other research institutions. For more information, please visit: http://sesync.us/mentors. Potential Collaborating Mentors must submit an application by October 24, 2016 to be included in a Mentor Registry that will be shared with successfully pre-screened applicants. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so prospective Collaborating Mentors are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible.
