The Bucknell Center for Sustainability and the Environment welcomes applications for the position of Director of the Place Studies Program.  The director of the Center’s Place Studies Program designs, conducts, and oversees scholarly projects, participates in interdisciplinary undergraduate teaching, and administers related activities associated with the program.  The Place Studies Program has established diverse, collaborative campus and field-based activities focused on community studies that primarily join social scientific and humanistic perspectives.  To date, Place Studies projects have focused on representing place, understanding and shaping sustainable communities within regions, and exploring rural health access among other thematic areas.

The successful candidate will bring advanced academic training and demonstrated interests in place/community studies—Master’s degree required; Ph.D. or ABD preferred.  The Director of the Place Studies Program will work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, liberal arts setting that includes undergraduate students, faculty, staff, and community partners.  The Director of the Place Studies Program will be responsible for designing and conducting collaborative scholarly projects, grant writing, project management, strategic planning, and organizing working groups.  This is a full time, ten-month position with excellent benefits.  It includes overseeing student/faculty projects during part of the summer.

The Place Studies Program is part of the Bucknell Center for Sustainability and the Environment.  The Center seeks to enable scholarship and learning that advances and applies understandings of natural systems and human-nature relationships.  In addition to Place Studies, the Center houses three major programs: Watershed Sciences and Engineering, Sustainable Design, and Global Sustainabilities.  For additional information about the Center please visit: http://www.bucknell.edu/BCSE.
