We've received our first historical photos for the NiCHE photo contest and we thought we'd share them to get your creative juices flowing. Thanks to Steve Marti and Michael Commito for their contributions. If you'd like to participate in our contest, find a historical photo from your research and take a photo of it in its original setting. You can send entries to us at niche@uwo.ca. The best entry will receive book prizes at the end of the summer.

Happy adventuring!

One of Sudbury’s main arteries, the Kingsway. 1961 picture contrasted with current shot of the road. The Kingsway is home to the majority of the city’s car dealerships and is the main gateway to Sudbury’s shopping centre. The hotel and gas stations on the right in the 1961 shot are no longer there and neither is the convenience store on the left. The road has also been widened and a new road is visible in the left hand portion of the current picture.

Again another 1961 picture of the Kingsway. Many of the structures on the right are still in existence just not in the same capacity. The most noticeable contrast in these shots is the residential development on the hill in the upper background. Currently, this is a bustling subdivision that overlooks the historic roadway. Also worth pointing out is that the sidewalk is basically the same in terms of placement and positioning.
